What is a Nigeria BSC Certificate?
Nigeria’sBSC (International Cargo Tracking Note) is a mandatory system for tracking and monitoring cargo shipments entering the country. It ensures that all goods are accurately documented, helps with customs clearance, and prevents illegal or unauthorized shipments. The BSC is enforced by the Nigerian Customs Service.

Who Needs a Nigeria BSC?
- Importers and exporters handling cargo to/from Nigeria.
- Shipping companies and freight forwarders managing shipments.
- Clearing agents and transporters involved in cargo logistics within Nigeria.
How to Obtain a Nigeria BSC?
1
Submit Required Documents
Provide the Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Freight Invoice, and other supporting documents.
2
Processing & Validation
Your application will be reviewed, and any missing details will be requested.
3
ECTN Issuance
Once approved, you’ll receive the validated ECTN, which must be included in shipping documents.
Consequences of Not Having an BSC
- Heavy fines at the destination
- Delays in cargo clearance
- Risk of cargo being returned or rejected
What are the required documents?

- Bill of Lading: A draft copy can be used for the application process.
- Commercial Invoice: Detailing the goods being shipped.
- Freight Invoice: Necessary if the freight cost isn’t specified on the commercial invoice.
- Export Customs Declaration: Details must match all other documents, especially if it’s not a cross-trade shipment.
The ECTN must be validated five days before the ship’s arrival at the latest. If you don’t provide it by then, you will be facing twice the amount of the cost of the BSC plus the regulation charges determined by the Nigerian National Port Officials.
Certificate cost depends on the number of Bill of Ladings and the containers, the country of origin, the port of discharge, etc. This is why we can’t give you an exact price for the CTN. But if you share your shipment’s details with us we can provide you the best charges for your certificate. We offer free quotation.
